2019 Recipient of Churchill Society Award of Excellence
Mr. Crombie achieved national prominence first as Mayor of Toronto and later as a member of the House of Commons representing the Toronto riding of Rosedale.
As Minister of Health and Welfare in the government of Prime Minister Joe Clark in 1979, Mr. Crombie initiated a fundamental review of health issues within Canada's indigenous population, marking the start of a series of steps that led to significant reforms in the delivery of health care in First Nations communities.
His achievements in that regard earned him appointments as Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs and Secretary of State and Minister of Multiculturalism when Brian Mulroney formed a government in 1984.
